A good movie night starts before anyone presses play. Give your friends a clear plan, prepare the video and leave a few minutes for everyone to settle into the same Zopley room.
1. Choose a film and a finish time
Ask how much time people have before choosing the movie. A ninety-minute comedy and a three-hour drama make very different evenings. Share the title, running time and whether anyone has seen it. Set a start time with the time zone written out.
Choose two workable films, check the length of the version you will use and ask everyone for their latest finish time. With a 100-minute film, five minutes to arrive, a five-minute break and ten minutes afterward, reserve two hours.
For a structured way to prepare a screening, use the Into Film club planning guide and adapt the activities to your own group.
- Arrival 5 min
- Film / episodes 100 min
- Breaks 5 min
- Conversation 10 min

2. Prepare the room before inviting everyone
Open your dashboard, create the room and select the video you intend to share. If you are using an upload, wait until processing finishes and test the opening. A room with the right source already loaded is much easier to join than a group still deciding what to watch.
Open Dashboard, create a room and attach a ready video from your library. Play the opening, seek to the middle and check the ending. Then return to the start and pause. If processing is still running, finish that step before sending the invitation.
The W3C accessible media guide explains captions, transcripts and audio description. Ask which options your guests need, then test them before the session.
3. Send one invitation
Copy the room link or invitation code from Zopley and send it in the conversation your group already uses. Include the movie title and ask everyone to arrive five minutes early. Use that time to check sound and confirm that each person can see the video.
Send one message containing the date, city or time zone, film title, running time and current room link. Ask one friend to test entry. Keep commercial viewing access separate from the room invitation and clarify any accounts guests need.
Check the actual date and cities in timeanddate's Meeting Planner before sending the invitation. Seasonal clock changes can alter the time difference.
4. Agree on the rhythm
Decide who handles playback and when to pause. Zopley shares playback changes with the room, so one person's interruption can affect the group. Keep the chat open for reactions and save the longer conversation for the credits.
Choose one person to press play. Agree that anyone can write PAUSE in the chat. Ask every guest to confirm picture and sound, start together, and wait for a READY message from each person after a break.
